Move.Reflect.Grow - the 20-20-20 technique

Updated: Mar 22, 2021

It is always the mind that is in conflict with the willpower. The mind hates to work continuously, likes to keep up its lazy momentum and most importantly, accepts negativity easily. It is only with the aid of an ever-strong willpower that one is able to overcome the struggles of one's mind and excel in his respective field.

In this write up, I am going to share with my dear readers an effective tip that will help improve your willpower and keep your mind in a constant working state without complaining. This technique will also boost your energy levels for the rest of the day and help in your personal and professional growth.

The technique, called the 20-20-20 technique, has been proposed by the eminent motivational author Robin Sharma, in his book The 5 AM Club. This involves waking up at 5 AM in the morning and utilizing the next 1 hour in following the 20-20-20 technique.

The 1 hour, from 5 AM to 6 AM, is divided into three segments, each of 20 minutes duration. The process of following this technique may be called the MOVE.REFLECT.GROW strategy. Follow this technique for the next 66 days and you will know the astounding results.

The Move segment involves the first 20 minutes of your day, from 5 AM to 5.20 AM,where you will do the following:

Drink water.

Work out.

Fresh up.

Wear good clothes.

Prayer and meditation

The Reflect segment involves the next 20 minutes from 5.20 AM to 5.40 AM. Here, you will plan your day, its goals and review your focus.

The Grow segment involves the last 20 minutes of the hour, where you will learn. Learning new things, sharpening professional skills and acquainting oneself to the growing world are the things to do in this segment.

Note that the 20 minutes is not a strict period, you may as well extend the period according to your will (even as long as up to 2-3 hours). Nevertheless, remember that you have to start your pace before the world wakes up to the day. Follow this technique for 66 continuous days.

This simple and powerful technique will definitely help you reach heights in career and aid in personal growth. As Evan Carmichael once said:

"Wake up early and tackle the day before it tackles you."
